1

Chill glass

Place an Old Fashioned glass or rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you build the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or pint glass, add 2 oz Four Roses Small Batch bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz Luxardo (if using), 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently and steadily for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for a dilution of roughly 20–25 ml (this time will vary with ice).

4

Prepare glass

Empty the chilled Old Fashioned glass of any ice/water if used. Add one large clear ice cube or sphere to the glass.

5

Strain

Using a strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.

6

Express orange oil & garnish

Take an orange peel and hold it over the glass, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils over the surface of the drink, then rub the peel along the rim and drop it into the glass. If desired, add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a pick.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of bourbon, vermouth and bitters.
