Method

Preparation

1

Chill and clean glassware

Select three small tasting glasses (1–2 oz / 30–60 ml capacity) or three copitas. Rinse each briefly with a small amount of fresh water and discard to remove dust; for a cooler presentation, chill the glasses in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before pouring.

2

Arrange flight

Place the three glasses in a line or a triangle on a small wooden board or tray from left to right: Platino, Reposado, Extra Añejo. This order moves from youngest to oldest to help the taster perceive development of flavor.

Pouring & Tasting

3

Measure and pour

Use a jigger or measured pour to pour 1 oz (30 ml) of Reserva de la Familia Platino into the first glass, 1 oz (30 ml) of Reserva de la Familia Reposado into the second glass, and 1 oz (30 ml) of Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo into the third glass. Pour gently to avoid splashing and to keep concentration of aromas intact.

4

Initial nosing

Before tasting, hold each glass at the rim and take a short, gentle sniff to pick up the primary aromas. Start with the Platino: look for fresh agave, citrus, and vegetal notes; move to the Reposado to notice light oak, vanilla, and baking-spice nuances; finish with the Extra Añejo to detect deep caramel, chocolate, dried fruit, and oak.

5

Tasting technique

Take small sips (a few milliliters) and let each tequila coat the tongue. Allow 10–20 seconds between sips to let the palate recover; cleanse with a small sip of filtered water if desired. Note the entry, mid-palate, finish, and the intensity and balance of sweetness, oak, and agave character in each sample.

6

Optional aromatic lift

If using an orange twist or slice, hold it briefly over the rim of the glass and express a slight squeeze to release oils onto the tequila's surface before nosing. This can highlight citrus and baking-spice elements, particularly with the reposado.

Service & Cleanup

7

Serve the flight with a small carafe of filtered water (about 60 ml) for palate cleansing and optional hydration. Provide tasting notes or guidance to guests if presenting professionally. After service, rinse glassware and allow to air dry.
