Prepare glass (optional)
If you want a salted rim: rub a lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse or smoked salt. Set the glass aside.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (about 3/4 full or roughly 1 cup of ice).
Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 0.75 oz agave nectar, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, and a pinch (about 0.25 tsp) saline solution or salt into the shaker.
Dry shake (shake without ice) for 8–10 seconds if you used a thick agave syrup to help emulsify, then add ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch (or skip dry shake and just shake 18–20 seconds with ice).
Garnish & Finish
Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down over the glass and gently bending it to release the oils. Rub the twist on the rim and drop it into the drink or place a grapefruit wheel on the rim.
Add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim or float it on top for color contrast.
Serve immediately. If you salted the rim, advise sipping from the unsalted portion if preferred.
