Whiskey Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the drink to chill the glass.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz Maker's Mark Bourbon, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

3

Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full stir strokes) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Prepare glass

If you used ice and water to chill the serving glass, dump the water and any ice. Place one large ice cube into the chilled old-fashioned glass.

5

Strain and garnish

Strain the stirred whiskey mixture over the large ice cube in the serving glass. Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and giving it a firm twist to release oils, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as a garnish.
