Method

Glass preparation

1

Rim the glass

Rub the lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass (or margarita glass). Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

Cocktail preparation

2

Combine and chill

Fill a cocktail shaker with the ice. Pour in 2 oz Don Julio Blanco, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave nectar. Add a couple of ice cubes more so the shaker is about two-thirds full.

3

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.

4

Strain

Discard ice from the prepared glass (if you prefer it chilled, leave a few cubes). Double-strain the shaken margarita into the rimmed glass over fresh ice (or neat if using a coupe).

5

Float Grand Marnier

Slowly pour 0.5 oz Grand Marnier over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the cocktail so the liqueur floats on top, creating the signature 'Cadillac' float.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or a thin lime wheel. Serve immediately with a small stirrer so the drinker can mix in the float if desired.
