Cocktail

Blueberry Simple Syrup (make ahead, optional)

Method

Blueberry Simple Syrup (optional, makes ~1 cup)

1

Combine and simmer

In a small saucepan combine 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Smash berries with a spoon to release juice and color.

2

Reduce and strain

Simmer gently 8–10 minutes until syrup is slightly thickened and has a deep purple color. Remove from heat and let cool 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a jar, pressing solids to extract liquid. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

3

Prepare glass

Fill a chilled copper mug or highball glass with cubed ice until nearly full (about 1 cup).

4

Build the mule

Pour 2 oz Western Son Blueberry Vodka and 1/2 oz fresh lime juice into the glass. If you prefer a more pronounced blueberry sweetness, add 1/2 oz blueberry simple syrup. Gently stir once to combine.

5

Top with ginger beer

Carefully top the mixture with 4 oz chilled ginger beer. Stir gently once or twice to integrate without flattening the fizz.

6

Garnish and finish

Thread 6–8 fresh blueberries onto a cocktail pick (or scatter them on top), add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim, and tuck a mint sprig into the ice if using. Serve with a straw and a small spoon for muddled berries if desired.

7

Serving suggestion

Serve immediately while ginger beer is fizzy. Adjust lime or syrup to taste for more tartness or sweetness.
