Method

Cocktail

1

Muddle Basil

Place 6 fresh basil leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup and gently muddle the leaves just enough to bruise them and release their aroma and oils — avoid shredding them into bits.

2

Add Liquids

Add 2 oz Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka and 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice to the shaker with the muddled basil.

3

Shake

Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the outside is frosted.

4

Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or rocks glass filled with fresh ice using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer to remove basil bits. If you prefer a slightly lighter drink, leave the cocktail unstirred over ice in a rocks glass.

5

Top (optional)

If desired, top with 1 oz of club soda for effervescence and gently stir once to combine.

6

Garnish & Serve

Garnish with a lemon wheel or wedge on the rim and a small basil sprig tucked into the drink. Serve immediately.
