Method
Cheese Balls Preparation
Mix the Cheese Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the sharp cheddar cheese, cream cheese, crumbled bacon, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
Form the Balls
Using your hands, form the cheese mixture into small balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Chill the Cheese Balls
Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up the cheese balls.
Battering and Frying
Prepare for Breading
Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs.
Bread the Cheese Balls
Take each chilled cheese ball, roll it in flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with bread crumbs. Ensure each ball is evenly coated.
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the cheese balls.
Fry the Cheese Balls
Carefully drop the breaded cheese balls into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
Serving
Serve with Dipping Sauce
Place the fried jalapeño cheese balls on a serving platter and serve hot with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
