Soda Fountain Base
Chill components
Ensure carbonated water and soda syrup are well chilled before assembly. Cold liquid preserves carbonation and produces a crisper pour.
Prepare glass and ice
Fill a tall serving glass with ice cubes (about 1 cup). Leave some space at top for fizz and garnish.
Measure and combine
Pour 2 cups of concentrated soda syrup into a mixing pitcher or directly into the glass if using pre-mixed portions. Add 4 cups chilled carbonated water to the syrup. If preparing a single serving in the glass, use a 1:2 syrup-to-water ratio by volume (for this recipe scale: if making one glass, pour ~1/3 cup syrup and 2/3 cup carbonated water).
Stir gently
Using a long spoon stir once or twice gently to combine. Avoid vigorous stirring to retain carbonation—just enough to mix syrup and carbonated water evenly.
Adjust sweetness/strength
Taste the drink. If too sweet or syrup-forward, add small increments (2–4 tablespoons) of carbonated water and stir gently. If too weak, add up to 1–2 tablespoons more syrup, mixing gently after each addition.
Serve immediately
Pour (or top up) the combined soda into the ice-filled glass, leaving ~1/2 inch headspace for fizz. Serve right away to preserve carbonation.
Optional Add-ins and Garnishes
Citrus garnish
If using lemon or lime, cut a wedge or wheel and slide it onto the rim or into the drink. Squeeze lightly for extra brightness if desired.
Mint and cherry
Slap the mint sprig between your hands once to awaken oils and tuck it into the glass near the rim. Add a maraschino cherry on top or on a cocktail pick for classic presentation.
