Cocktail

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold.

2

Brew espresso

Pull a shot (about 1 oz) of freshly brewed espresso. Allow it to rest 10–20 seconds off the heat so it is hot but not scalding; a slightly cooled shot integrates better with ice when shaking.

Mixing

3

Combine in shaker

Add 2 oz vodka, 0.75 oz hazelnut liqueur, 1 oz espresso, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. If you prefer a slightly milder coffee intensity, add 0.25 oz cold water or ice-cold brewed coffee.

4

Add ice and shake hard

Fill the shaker with ice cubes (about 4–6 cubes). Seal and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds. A strong shake chills the drink and creates a light crema on top from the espresso.

5

Double strain

Empty the chilled glass of ice or water. Using both the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer, double strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass to remove small ice shards and espresso grounds for a smooth finish.

Garnish & Serve

6

Garnish the cocktail with 3 whole coffee beans placed on the crema for aroma and visual contrast. Serve immediately.
