Method

Cocktail Assembly

1

Prepare glass

Place a large ice cube in a lowball/old fashioned glass and set aside so the glass chills while you mix.

2

Mix base

In a mixing glass or short shaker, add 2 oz bourbon or rye, 0.25 oz demerara syrup (or simple syrup), and 3 dashes Angostura bitters.

3

Stir

Add enough ice to the mixing glass to chill (about 4-6 medium ice cubes). Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (about 15–20% dilution).

4

Strain

Discard any water from the chilled serving glass if needed, then strain the stirred cocktail over the large ice cube in the old fashioned glass.

Finish & Garnish

5

Express orange oil

Take the orange peel and hold it skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the drink. Give it a firm snap to express the oils over the surface of the cocktail, then rub the peel around the rim and drop the peel into the glass.

6

Garnish with cherry

Skewer or drop a Luxardo cherry into the glass alongside the orange peel.

7

Serve immediately. Enjoy the Fing Old Fashion as a slightly boozy, aromatic riff on the classic old fashioned.
