Coffee and water

Method

Prepare brewer and filter

1

Rinse filter

Place the paper filter in the drip basket (or insert the reusable filter). Pour a small amount of hot water through the filter to rinse paper flavor and preheat the basket and server. Discard the rinse water from the server.

2

Ensure the drip brewer reservoir is clean and that the filter sits evenly so water will pass through the coffee bed uniformly.

Measure and load coffee

3

Measure 1 tablespoon (approx. 0.033 cups) of coarsely ground decaffeinated coffee per 1 cup (240 ml) of water. Add the measured grounds to the rinsed filter, leveling the bed so the surface is even.

Brew

4

Start brewing

Pour the heated water (92–96°C / 197–205°F) into the brewer's reservoir. If using a manual pour-over style drip, pour in a slow, circular motion starting from the center and moving outward to wet all grounds evenly. Allow water to draw through the coffee bed. Total contact time for drip should be about 3–4 minutes for a coarser drip grind; adjust grind finer if brew time is too short, coarser if too long.

5

If using an automatic drip machine, start the brew cycle and let the machine complete it. Ensure the brew finishes without interruption.

Serve

6

Once brewing is complete, remove the filter basket to avoid over-extraction and discard used grounds and filter.

7

Pour the decaffeinated coffee into your mug or server. Add optional milk or sweetener to taste (about 2 tbsp milk and 1 tsp sweetener suggested). Stir and let cool slightly before sipping.

Cleanup and storage

8

Rinse the brewer components and server. Store leftover decaffeinated coffee in a sealed container in the refrigerator and consume within 24 hours for best flavor.
