Method
Coffee Base
Dose and grind
Weigh out approximately 30 g (0.03 kg) of whole coffee beans for a standard 12-cup coffee maker batch (this yields a medium-strength brew of roughly 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio). Grind beans to a medium grind size (similar to coarse sand) immediately before brewing to preserve freshness.
Prepare water
Fill the coffee maker reservoir with 12 cups of filtered water. Use cold, fresh filtered water for the cleanest taste. If your machine has temperature control, set to around 92–96°C (197–205°F).
Load and brew
Place a clean paper or reusable filter in the brew basket. Add the ground coffee evenly into the filter. Start the brew cycle. Allow the full extraction to complete; total brew time will depend on the machine but typically takes 5–8 minutes for a 12-cup machine.
Serve or keep warm
When brewing finishes, pour immediately into cups to preserve aroma and flavor. If using a thermal carafe, transfer brewed coffee promptly to maintain temperature without continuing to cook on a hot plate (which can cause bitterness).
Optional Add-ins (per cup)
Customize each cup to taste: add 1 tsp granulated sugar and 2 tbsp milk/cream (or non-dairy creamer) if desired. Stir until combined. For flavored coffee, add 1 tbsp flavored syrup and stir. Adjust quantities to taste (for larger or smaller cups, scale add-ins accordingly).
