Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks (about 1-2 inches).

2

Boil the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

3

Drain the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander and let them sit for a couple of minutes to evaporate excess moisture.

Mashing

4

Mash the Potatoes

In the pot, add the butter to the drained potatoes. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash until you achieve your desired consistency.

5

Add Milk and Seasonings

Pour in the milk, then add salt and black pepper to taste. If using garlic, mince the garlic and add it at this stage. Mix well until creamy and smooth.

6

Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, fold in sour cream for extra creaminess and sprinkle chopped chives for garnish before serving.
