Method

Preparation

1

Preheat the campfire

Prepare your campfire to have a steady, medium heat. If using a grill grate, ensure it's clean and positioned securely over the flames.

2

Mix dry ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

3

Cream wet ingredients

In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and eggs, mixing until fully incorporated.

4

Combine mixtures

Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.

5

Add mix-ins

Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.

Cooking

6

Using a spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto a piece of aluminum foil. Fold the foil to create a secure packet, ensuring there are no open edges.

7

Cook over campfire

Place the foil packets on the grill grate or directly on the hot coals of the campfire. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.

8

Check for doneness

After 10 minutes, carefully open a packet to check if the cookies are golden brown and cooked through. If not, reseal and cook for another few minutes.

9

Serve

Once cooked, carefully remove the packets from the fire and let them cool for a minute before unwrapping. Serve warm and enjoy!
