Preparation
Prepare the Simple Syrup
If you don't have simple syrup, you can make it by combining equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it cool before using.
Muddle the Mint
In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh mint leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press the mint leaves to release their oils. Avoid tearing the leaves too much.
Add the Base Ingredients
Pour in the white rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled mint.
Shake the Cocktail
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients.
Strain into Glass
Strain the mixture into a glass filled with crushed ice. This can be served in a highball or cocktail glass.
Garnish
Garnish the cocktail with a lime wedge and a sprig of mint for a fresh presentation.
