Method
Prepare Taco Shells
Frying Corn Tortillas
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add one corn tortilla at a time. Fry for about 30 seconds on each side until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Soft Tacos Option
If you prefer soft tacos, simply warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat for about 10-15 seconds on each side until they are pliable.
Cook Meat Filling
Brown the Meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or ground chicken. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
Add Seasoning
Drain any excess fat from the meat, then stir in the taco seasoning and water. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Assemble Tacos
Build Your Taco
Take a prepared taco shell (either crispy or soft) and spoon in a generous amount of the meat filling. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and chopped cilantro according to your preference.
