Hibiscus Liqueur Preparation

1

Make the Hibiscus Liqueur

In a saucepan, combine dried hibiscus flowers and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture into a bowl, discarding the flowers. Stir in sugar until dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool, then add mezcal. Mix well and set aside.

Agua de Jamaica Preparation

2

Make the Agua de Jamaica

In a separate saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid and return it to the saucepan. Stir in 1 tablespoon of sugar and 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Mix until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool.

Cocktail Assembly

3

Assemble the Cocktail

In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces of the hibiscus liqueur, 2 ounces of agua de jamaica, the makrut lime leaves, cardamom pods, 3 tablespoons of fresh orange juice, and 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with an orange slice and lime wedge.
