1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the drink.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add the rye whiskey (2 oz), dry vermouth (1 oz), pineapple juice (3/4 oz), and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

3

Add ice and stir

Add large ice cubes to the mixing glass until nearly full. Stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full revolutions) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a lightly shaken drink for more aeration, add ice and shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds, then strain.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass with ice water, empty it now. Strain the chilled cocktail into the coupe or cocktail glass through a julep strainer or the shaker's built-in strainer.

5

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down and giving it a firm bend over the glass, then rub the rim with the twist and drop it in as garnish. Optionally add a pineapple leaf or small wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
