Sandwich

Optional for grilled/toasted sandwich

Method

Prepare spreads and produce

1

Make spread

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Stir until smooth and set aside.

2

Rinse and dry the lettuce leaf. Slice the tomato into 2 even slices and pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

3

Season the tomato slices lightly with 1/4 teaspoon of the salt and a pinch of the black pepper to bring out flavor.

Assemble sandwich

4

Lay two slices of bread flat on a cutting board. Spread the mayonnaise-Dijon mixture evenly over one side of each slice.

5

On one slice of bread, place the lettuce leaf (spread side down), then arrange the 3 oz of sliced turkey evenly over the lettuce.

6

Top the turkey with the sliced cheddar (1 oz) so it covers the meat evenly.

7

Place the seasoned tomato slices over the cheese, then add dill pickle slices if using. Sprinkle the remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt and the remaining black pepper evenly over the tomato if desired (use sparingly).

8

Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread, spread side down. Press lightly to compress the sandwich layers for even eating.

Optional: Toast or grill

9

If you prefer a toasted sandwich, spread the outer sides of each bread slice with the softened butter (about 1 tsp total). Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the pan, buttered side down. Cook 2–3 minutes per side, or until bread is golden brown and cheese has softened. Use a spatula to press gently and flip carefully.

10

Remove from skillet, let rest 1 minute, then slice in half diagonally and serve.
