Method
Coffee
Measure Water
Pour 350 ml of filtered water into a kettle. This yields one generous 12-oz (about 350 ml) cup of brewed coffee.
Heat Water
Bring the water to just below boiling—about 93–96°C (200–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a full boil and let rest 30 seconds.
Prepare Beans and Grind
Weigh or measure approximately 30 g (0.03 kg) of whole coffee beans for a stronger pot or to have grounds for multiple cups. For a single cup, grind 2 tablespoons of coffee beans to a medium grind (similar to coarse sand). Use a burr grinder if possible for consistent particle size.
Preheat Vessel
If using a drip brewer, pour a small amount of hot water into the carafe or cup to warm it, then discard the water. For French press or pour-over, warm the vessel the same way to keep brew temperature stable.
Add Grounds
Place the 2 tablespoons (or the ground amount corresponding to your beans) of medium-ground coffee into your coffee maker: filter basket for drip, filter cone for pour-over, or the bottom of a French press.
Bloom (for pour-over or French press)
If using pour-over or French press, pour about 40–60 ml of the hot water over the grounds to saturate them evenly. Let bloom for 30–45 seconds; this releases trapped CO2 and improves extraction.
Brew
Pour the remaining hot water over the grounds slowly and evenly (for pour-over) until you reach 350 ml total. For drip machines, start the brew cycle. For French press, add all the water, stir gently, and place the lid with the plunger up; steep for 3:30–4:00 minutes.
Plunge or Finish
If using a French press, after 3:30–4:00 minutes, press the plunger down steadily. If using pour-over or drip, allow all water to pass through the grounds into the carafe or cup.
Serve
Pour the brewed coffee into a cup if needed. Taste and adjust with more milk or sweetener if desired. Serve immediately while hot.
Storage / Leftovers
Brewed coffee is best consumed immediately. If you must store it, transfer to an airtight thermos and keep warm for up to 4 hours; refrigerated coffee will change flavor and can be used within 24–48 hours for iced coffee.
