Method
Prep the Potatoes
Wash and Peel
Start by washing the russet potatoes thoroughly under cool running water. Peel the skins using a vegetable peeler or knife.
Cut into Fries
Cut each potato into even sticks, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Try to keep them uniform for even cooking.
Soak the Fries
To remove excess starch, soak the cut fries in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes. This will help them become crispier when fried.
Fry the Potatoes
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.
Dry the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Fry in Batches
Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove and Drain
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
