Add ice
Fill the chilled mule mug or a highball glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes (approximately 1 cup).
Add spirits and lime
Pour 2 oz vodka over the ice. Add 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice. Fresh juice provides the best bright flavor; squeeze from about half a lime.
Top with ginger beer
Carefully top the drink with about 4 oz ginger beer. Pour gently to preserve carbonation and to allow a gentle mixing of ingredients.
Stir gently
Use a bar spoon or a straw to stir the cocktail once or twice from top to bottom to combine vodka, lime and ginger beer without flattening the fizz.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and, if desired, a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
