Arepa Dough

Method

Prepare Arepa Dough

1

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the pre-cooked cornmeal and salt.

2

Add Water

Gradually add warm water to the cornmeal mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.

3

Knead Dough

Knead the dough with your hands for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and pliable. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water.

4

Shape Arepas

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball, then flatten each ball into a disk about 1 inch thick.

Cook Arepas

5

Preheat Pan

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.

6

Cook Arepas

Place the arepas in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and slightly crispy.

7

Finish Cooking

Transfer the cooked arepas to a baking sheet and place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for an additional 10 minutes to fully cook through.

Assemble Arepas

8

Slice Arepas

Remove the arepas from the oven and let them cool for a minute. Then, slice them open like a pocket.

9

Fill Arepas

Stuff each arepa with chili mozzarella cheese, cooked black beans, sliced avocado, and chopped cilantro.

10

Add Hot Sauce

Drizzle hot sauce inside the arepas to taste.
