Hot Dogs & Buns
Cook hot dogs — grill method
Place jumbo hot dogs on the grill perpendicular to the grates so they get good char marks. Cook 6–8 minutes, turning every 1–2 minutes so they brown evenly and heat through. Aim for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for beef hot dogs.
Toppings — Classic
Prepare the diced onion and pickle slices. Place ketchup and mustard in squeeze bottles or small bowls for easy topping.
Optional Toppings
If using sauerkraut: heat briefly in a small saucepan until warm, drain and mound on the hot dog.
If using chili: warm the chili on the stovetop until simmering, spoon about 1/2 cup chili over each hot dog, then sprinkle shredded cheddar on top so it melts from the residual heat.
For jalapeños and coleslaw: add sliced jalapeños to taste; spoon coleslaw on top for a crunchy contrast.
For Serving
Serve each assembled jumbo hot dog immediately with napkins. Offer extra condiments and optional toppings on the side so guests can customize.
Leftovers: refrigerate cooked hot dogs and separate buns in airtight containers for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave and toast buns before serving.
