Electrolyte base

Method

Electrolyte base

1

Warm and dissolve

Pour 1 cup of the water into a small saucepan and warm gently over low heat (do not boil). Add the light corn syrup (or glucose syrup) and table sugar, stirring constantly until fully dissolved, about 2–3 minutes.

2

Remove from heat and stir in the salt and potassium chloride (or electrolyte powder) until fully dissolved.

Acid & flavor

3

In a pitcher, combine the remaining 3 cups of cold water with the dissolved syrup/electrolyte mixture. Stir to combine and cool the mixture slightly.

4

Add the citric acid (or lemon juice), orange juice (or chosen fruit juice), and the natural fruit flavoring/extract. Stir thoroughly to incorporate. Taste and adjust acidity or sweetness: add up to 1/2 tsp more citric acid for tang, or up to 1 tbsp more sugar if you prefer sweeter.

5

If desired, add 1–2 drops of food coloring and stir until the color is uniform.

Optional boost

6

If using, add the magnesium citrate powder and vitamin C powder to the pitcher and stir until fully dissolved. Note: follow supplement dosing guidance and omit if unsure.

Chill & serve

7

Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill. Serve over ice. Shake or stir before pouring if any settling occurs.

8

Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving.
