Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tsp of salt to the water.

Cook Penne

Add 2 cups of penne pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions (usually 11-13 minutes) until al dente.

Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making the Sauce

Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

Sauté Garlic

Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes and Herbs

Pour in 1 cup of canned crushed tomatoes. Add 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir well.

Simmer Sauce

Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

Combine

Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

Add Cheese

Sprinkle 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta and mix until melted and combined.

Serve the penne pasta hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves if desired.
