Method

Meatballs

1

Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

2

Shape the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into small balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

3

Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned.

Pomodorina Sauce

4

Sauté the Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.

5

Prepare the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes to the skillet along with chopped fresh basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

6

Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Spaghetti

7

Cook the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

8

Combine the Dish

Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain and add it to the skillet with the Pomodorina sauce. Toss to combine and heat through for a couple of minutes.

9

Serve

Place the spaghetti on a plate, top with meatballs, and garnish with additional chopped basil or grated Parmesan if desired.
