Cocktail Base
Garnish & Rim
Method
Prepare Citrus Salt Rim
Mix rim
On a small plate, combine coarse salt, grated orange zest, and granulated sugar (if using). Use the back of a spoon to press the zest into the salt so the oils distribute evenly.
Wet glass rim
Rub a cut orange wheel around the outer edge of a chilled margarita or coupe glass to moisten the rim. Alternatively, use a little agave nectar on the rim for a stronger adhesion.
Dip the moistened rim into the citrus salt mixture, pressing gently to coat evenly. Set the glass aside, upright, to let the rim set while you prepare the cocktail.
Blend Margarita
Add ingredients to blender
In a high-speed blender, combine la vieja taberna reposado (2 oz), marfa spirit co. rio grande orange liqueur (1 oz), fresh orange juice (2 oz), oat milk (1 oz), agave nectar (0.5 oz), and 2 cups of ice.
Pulse and check texture
Start by pulsing 4–6 times to break up large ice, then blend on high for 10–20 seconds until smooth and slushy. If mixture is too thin, add 1/2 cup more ice and blend briefly. If too thick, add 0.25–0.5 oz more orange juice or 0.25 oz water and pulse once.
Taste for sweetness and balance. Add up to 0.25 oz more agave if you prefer sweeter, or a squeeze (about 0.25 oz) of lime or orange juice if it needs brighter acidity; blend 2–3 seconds after adjustments.
Assemble & Garnish
Carefully pour or ladle the frozen margarita into the prepared glass, filling to the rim.
Garnish with the orange wheel or a long orange twist on the rim. Optionally, grate a tiny dusting of orange zest over the top for aroma.
Serve immediately with a straw or short spoon. Advise guests to sip and enjoy the creamy, citrus-forward frozen margarita with a salty-citrus rim.
