1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and set aside while you prepare the cocktail to keep the drink cool without over-dilution.

2

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz Don Julio 1942, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz agave syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and stir (or shake)

If you prefer a smoother, colder, slightly more diluted drink: add a large handful of ice and stir with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled (about 20–25 full turns). For a brighter, slightly frothier profile: add ice and shake vigorously for 8–12 seconds, then strain. Either method is acceptable; stirring preserves more of the tequila's texture and aromatics.

4

Prepare glass and ice

Discard any ice from the chilled rocks glass. Place 1–2 large clear ice cubes into the glass.

5

Strain

Using a hawthorne or julep strainer, strain the mixed cocktail over the large ice cube(s) in the rocks glass.

6

Garnish and finish

Express the oils of a lime peel (or a flamed orange twist) over the surface of the drink by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a firm squeeze (or briefly flame the orange peel with a lighter before expressing). Rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Serve immediately.

If you prefer slightly sweeter profile, increase agave syrup to 0.5 oz. Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best balance. Large clear ice cubes minimize dilution and keep the aroma concentrated.
