Cocktail

Method

Prepare glass and build cocktail

1

Sweeten & flavor glass

Add the simple syrup (0.25 oz) into an old-fashioned glass. Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 2 dashes orange bitters into the syrup. Stir briefly with a bar spoon (4–6 rotations) to combine and to coat the interior of the glass.

2

Add spirit and ice

Pour 2 oz rye or bourbon into the glass. Add a large clear ice cube (or enough ice to fill the glass).

3

Stir to chill and dilute

Using a bar spoon, stir the cocktail briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the outside of the glass feels cold and the drink has become slightly diluted and well-integrated.

Garnish and finish

4

Express orange oils

Take the candied or fresh orange peel and hold it over the glass, skin-side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils over the surface of the drink, then rub the peel around the rim of the glass.

5

Add garnish

Drop the twisted candied orange peel into the drink and place one Luxardo (or cocktail) cherry on top or on a cocktail pick resting across the glass. Serve immediately.
