Build and stir
Fill a highball glass with ice cubes to the top. Pour 2 oz blanco tequila, 0.75 oz cherry liqueur (or cherry syrup), and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice over the ice. Gently stir with a bar spoon for about 10–15 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients without over-diluting.
Top with soda
Top the mixture with 4 oz chilled club soda. Give one gentle, brief stir (3–5 seconds) to incorporate the soda without losing too much carbonation.
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of a lime wheel over the drink by squeezing it once or twist the peel, then drop the wheel or wedge into the glass. Add one maraschino cherry or a fresh dark cherry on a pick. Serve with a straw if desired.
Notes: If using cherry syrup instead of liqueur, you may wish to reduce syrup to 0.5 oz and optionally add a small dash (1–2 drops) of bitters to add complexity. Adjust lime to taste for balance between sweetness and acidity.
