Method

Liquors

1

Measure and combine

Add 1 oz Basil Hayden’s, 1 oz Blanton’s Single Barrel, and 1 oz Buffalo Trace into a chilled mixing glass.

Citrus & Sweetener

2

Add sweetener & bitters

Pour 0.25 oz simple syrup into the mixing glass and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. These balance the combined proof and add aromatic complexity.

3

Stirring: Add plenty of ice to the mixing glass, then stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until the mix is well chilled (about 20°F drop) and slightly diluted—aim for roughly 20% dilution for balance.

Ice & Tools

4

Prepare glass

Place one large ice cube or sphere in a rocks glass.

5

Strain and finish

Using a strainer, pour the stirred cocktail over the prepared ice in the rocks glass.

6

Garnish

Express the orange peel over the drink to release oils, rub the peel on the rim if desired, and drop it into the glass.

7

Serve: Present immediately. The cocktail highlights three distinct bourbons — the herbal spice of Basil Hayden’s, the single-barrel character of Blanton’s, and the solid backbone of Buffalo Trace — finished with a touch of sweetness and bitters.
