In a large brew kettle, heat 20 liters of water to 66°C (150°F). Add the wheat and barley malts, and maintain the temperature for 60 minutes for mashing.

Mashing

After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water to collect the wort. Aim to collect around 25 liters of wort.

Sparging

Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding the coriander seeds and dried orange peel in the last 10 minutes of the boil.

Boiling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly to around 20°C (68°F) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.

Cooling

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Pitch the yeast and seal the vessel with an airlock. Allow fermentation to take place for 1-2 weeks at room temperature.

Fermentation

Once fermentation is complete, transfer the beer to sanitized bottles, adding priming sugar if you want carbonation. Seal the bottles and let them carbonate for another 1-2 weeks.

Bottling

Chill the bottles and serve your homemade Hoegaarden in a glass. Enjoy responsibly!
