Honeydew Vodka & Prep

Method

Honeydew Vodka & Prep

1

Make a quick infused vodka: place the 2 cups peeled, cubed honeydew in a clean jar and pour 2 cups vodka over the melon.

2

Optional: add 1 tablespoon sugar dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water to slightly heighten melon sweetness. Stir to combine.

3

Seal the jar and refrigerate. For a bright, quick infusion, chill for 6–12 hours and strain. For a stronger, rounder flavor, infuse for 24–48 hours. After infusion, strain vodka through a fine mesh or cheesecloth into a clean bottle, pressing gently to extract liquid. Discard solids.

4

If you prefer to use fresh honeydew in the cocktail rather than an infused vodka, reserve the prepared melon cubes for muddling in the cocktail build and use plain vodka instead.

Cocktail Build

5

Chill glass

Place a coupe or highball glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you build the drink.

6

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz honeydew-infused vodka, 0.75 oz Aperol, 0.5 oz Garden of Eden cordial, and 0.5 oz fresh yuzu juice.

7

If using fresh honeydew cubes as garnish/texture, add 1 oz small honeydew cubes or melon balls to the shaker and lightly muddle once or twice — just to release juices without turning it into puree.

8

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to chill well), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

9

Discard ice/water from the chilled glass. Fine-strain the shaken mix into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass over fresh ice, depending on presentation preference.

10

Top with approximately 2 oz chilled sparkling grapefruit to bring brightness and effervescence. Gently stir once to combine (2–3 gentle turns).

11

Garnish with a thin honeydew slice or a melon ball on a pick and an optional yuzu twist expressed over the drink to add aromatic lift.

12

Serve immediately. Encourage sipping slowly to enjoy the interplay of melon sweetness, Aperol bitterness, floral cordial, bright yuzu, and grapefruit fizz.
