Method

Cocktail

1

Combine ingredients

Add rye whiskey, Campari, sweet vermouth, honey syrup, and orange bitters to a mixing glass.

2

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice (about 1 cup) and stir gently but steadily for 30–45 seconds until the outside of the glass feels very cold and the liquid is properly diluted and slightly viscous.

3

Strain

Double-strain (if using crushed or chipped ice) or fine-strain into a chilled old-fashioned glass over one large clear ice cube or a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish & Finish

4

Express the oils from the orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the glass and giving it a firm bend so oils spray across the cocktail. Rim the glass with the peel and drop it in. Optionally skewer a Luxardo cherry and rest it on the ice or drop it into the drink.

5

Serve immediately. Proper ratio produces a slightly bitter, herbaceous red groni with honeyed depth and warm rye backbone — enjoy.
