Brandy & Bitter Liqueur (B&B) Cocktail

Optional Serving/Tools

Method

Brandy & Bitter Liqueur (B&B) Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place your rocks glass or snifter in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to cool it down. Discard the ice water just before straining.

2

Measure and combine

Pour 2 oz of Cognac (or quality brandy) and 1 oz of Benedictine into a mixing glass or small pitcher.

3

Add ice and stir

Add 6 ice cubes to the mixing glass. Using a bar spoon, stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full turns) until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted — this opens aromatics and smooths the drink.

4

Strain and serve

Using a strainer, pour the chilled mixture into your prepared rocks glass or snifter. Serve neat (over a single large ice cube if preferred) or without ice depending on preference.

5

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the surface of the drink by holding the twist skin-side down over the glass and giving it a firm squeeze, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink. If using a lemon twist, you may do the same or use both for a brighter aroma.

6

Optional variations: For a slightly sweeter version, increase Benedictine to 1.25 oz. For a more spirit-forward drink, reduce Benedictine to 0.75 oz. Substitute a different herbal liqueur if Benedictine is unavailable (e.g., a lighter Dom B&B style) and adjust to taste.

Serving/Tools

7

If serving on the rocks, place a single large ice cube in the chilled glass before straining. If serving neat, ensure the glass is well-chilled so the drink stays cool without additional dilution.

8

Use the bar spoon and strainer to ensure a clean, clear pour. Clean and dry garnish tools before use for best aroma.
