Cold Brew Concentrate
To Serve (per 8 oz glass)
Method
Cold Brew Concentrate
Combine coffee and water
In a clean 1‑liter (or larger) jar or pitcher, add 1 cup coarsely ground coffee. Pour 4 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, making sure all grounds are saturated. Stir gently for about 10–15 seconds to ensure even wetting.
Steep
Cover the jar or pitcher with a lid or plastic wrap. Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16–20 hours. For a slightly brighter cup, steep closer to 12–16 hours; for a stronger, more concentrated brew, steep up to 24 hours.
Filter the concentrate
After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or a nut-milk bag into a clean container. If using a sieve, pour slowly and allow gravity to filter; then repeat filtering if any fines remain. Gently press or squeeze the cloth/bag to extract the remaining liquid, but avoid forcing fine sediment through.
Store
Transfer the filtered cold brew concentrate to a sealed bottle or jar and refrigerate. Concentrate will keep well for up to 10–14 days; best within the first week.
To Serve
Fill an 8 oz glass with 1 cup (about 8 oz) ice.
Stir gently. Taste and sweeten if desired with up to 1 tablespoon simple syrup, honey, or dissolved sugar. For sweetened variations, add flavored syrups or a splash of vanilla.
Serve immediately. Leftover mixed drinks should be consumed within a day; unused concentrate remains refrigerated for up to 10–14 days.
