Fried Pickles

Method

Fried Pickles

1

Prepare the Pickles

Drain the pickle slices thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the batter stick better.

2

Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well mixed.

3

Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the buttermilk, mixing well until combined.

4

Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

5

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles, it’s ready.

6

Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

7

Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickles in the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

8

Drain the Pickles

Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the pickles from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

9

Serve

Serve the fried pickles hot with Tip Top Special Sauce for dipping.
