1

Prepare glass

Chill a rocks glass or coupe by filling it with ice and setting it aside while you mix the drink.

2

Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker add 1 tablespoon Fernet Branca, 2 oz cachaça, 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

3

Add ice and shake

Add the 4 oz of ice to the shaker. Cap and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and well-chilled.

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice used to chill the glass and add fresh serving ice (about 3 oz) to the glass if you prefer it on the rocks; alternatively, leave the glass empty for a neat/chilled serve.

5

Strain and finish

Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or a single strainer if you don't have one) to remove small ice shards and pulp.

6

Garnish

Express a lime peel over the top to release oils, rub the rim with it if desired, and drop the wheel or twist into or onto the glass.

7

Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Sip and enjoy the bitter herbal lift of Fernet balanced by the grassy, fruity notes of cachaça and the bright acidity of lime.
