Method
Prepare Syrup & Mix
Make a simple cola-sweetener blend
In a medium jug or mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of cola with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. Tasting note: the lemon brightens the cola and helps preserve flavor when partially frozen.
Add whiskey
Pour 1 cup whiskey into the cola-sugar mixture and stir gently to combine. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes to lower the temperature before blending — this reduces foaming and helps the slush set up more quickly.
Freeze & Blend
Freeze method A — ice cube tray (preferred for best texture)
Pour the chilled cola-whiskey blend into shallow ice cube trays or a shallow metal pan. Freeze until partially solid, about 3–4 hours for trays or 2–3 hours for a thin pan (you want it slushy rather than rock solid). Break into chunks if using a pan.
Freeze method B — direct blender (fast)
If short on time, skip the pre-freeze and proceed to the blender: add the chilled cola-whiskey mix and ice cubes (about 6–8 cups) to a high-speed blender. Start on low and pulse until slushy. Be cautious — carbonation can cause foaming; vent lid slightly if your blender allows, and pulse rather than run continuously.
Blend to texture
Using a strong blender or food processor, combine the partially frozen cola-whiskey chunks (or the mixture with ice) and blend in 10–20 second bursts until you reach a smooth, scoopable slush. If the mixture is too thin, add more ice in small increments and pulse. If too thick, add a splash (1–2 tbsp) of cola and pulse again.
Serve & Garnish
Notes on strength and sweetness: because alcohol lowers freezing point, the whiskey content here keeps the slush soft. For a stronger drink, reduce cola by 1/2 cup and add 1/4–1/2 cup more whiskey, but expect a looser slush. For a sweeter, less boozy result, increase cola by 1/2 cup and reduce whiskey by 2 tbsp.
