Prepare lime leaf syrup
If you don't have pre-made lime leaf syrup, make 1/2 cup simple syrup infused with lime leaves: combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan, bring to a gentle simmer until sugar dissolves, remove from heat, add 6–8 fresh lime leaves, cover and steep for 20–30 minutes, then strain and chill. Use 0.5 oz of this syrup for one cocktail.
Lightly bruise two fresh lime leaves between your palms or gently clap them to release oils. Place them in a mixing glass.
Add 1 oz gin, 1 oz vodka, 0.75 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz chilled lime leaf syrup and 0.25 oz fresh lime juice into the mixing glass with the bruised leaves.
Fill the mixing glass with ice (approx. 6 oz by volume of ice cubes). Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. Stirring (rather than shaking) keeps the texture smooth and the drink sharp.
Garnish
Express oils from the garnish lime leaf or twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding it over the glass and giving it a quick clap or twist, then drop the leaf into the drink or lay it on the rim for aroma. Optionally, perch a lime twist on the rim.
