Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Ginger Syrup

Peel and finely chop the fresh ginger root. In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped ginger and granulated sugar with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

2

Simmer the Mixture

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the mixture has thickened slightly.

3

Strain the Syrup

Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the mixture into a bowl using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the ginger pieces. Let the syrup cool.

Final Assembly

4

Combine Ingredients

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled ginger syrup, lemon juice, and carbonated water. Stir gently to mix.

5

Serve

Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the ginger ale over the ice, and garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately.
