Method
Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Filo
Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Prepare the Nut Filling
In a large bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well to combine.
Assembling the Baklava
Add the Nut Filling
Spread a thin layer of the nut filling over the buttered filo. Continue layering more filo sheets (about 4 sheets), brushing each with butter, then adding another layer of nut filling. Repeat until all filling is used, finishing with about 8 more buttered filo sheets on top.
Cut the Baklava
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes, cutting through all the layers.
Bake the Baklava
Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
Preparing the Honey Syrup
Pour Syrup Over Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven. Immediately pour the cooled honey syrup evenly over the hot baklava, allowing it to soak in.
Finishing Touches
Cool and Serve
Allow the baklava to cool at room temperature for several hours before serving. This will help the syrup soak in and the layers to set. Cut along the previously made cuts and serve.
