Base Preparation

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until evenly mixed.

3

Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and water until combined.

4

Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

5

Prepare Baking Pan

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

6

Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7

Cool

Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

8

Beat Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth using an electric mixer.

9

Add Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder to the creamed butter, mixing on low speed until incorporated.

10

Add Milk and Vanilla

Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, then beat on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.

11

Frost the Cake

Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top using a spatula.
