Doughnut Holes

Method

Preparation

1

Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

2

Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

3

Fry the Doughnut Holes

Using a small cookie scoop or a spoon, drop small balls of the dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

4

Prepare the Butterscotch Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, and 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and bubbly. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes.

5

Serve

Serve the warm doughnut holes drizzled with hot butterscotch sauce.
