Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice and cold water while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz gin (ideally a genever-style or London dry gin), 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz Yellow Chartreuse, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters.

3

Stir and dilute

Add 6 ice cubes to the mixing glass and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the mixture is well chilled and properly diluted (roughly 20–25% dilution by volume is typical for stirred citrus cocktails).

4

Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, discard it and dry the glass.

5

Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer plus a fine mesh strainer to remove any small ice chips and pulp.

Garnish

6

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist skin-side-down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then run the twisted peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as a garnish.
