Preparation

1

Caramelize the Onions

Slice the large onion into thin rings. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the onions and a pinch of salt, cooking slowly for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized.

2

Prepare the Lettuce and Tomato

Wash and dry the lettuce leaves, then chop them into bite-sized pieces. Slice the large tomato into thick rounds.

Cooking the Burger

3

Shape the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

4

Grill the Burgers

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to melt.

Assembly

5

Assemble the Burger

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster. Place the cooked burger patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with caramelized onions, chopped lettuce, a slice of tomato, and dill pickles.

6

Serve

Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger and serve immediately with your favorite sides.
