Method
Prep
Gather a cocktail shaker, muddler, fine strainer (optional), jigger, and a chilled rocks glass or coupe.
Make the cocktail
Place the fresh blackberries (6) into the cocktail shaker.
Use a muddler to firmly muddle the blackberries until they are well crushed and have released their juices — about 20–30 seconds. You want broken skins and a fragrant purée but avoid pulverizing seeds excessively.
Add 2 oz Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila, 0.75 oz Cointreau, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup to the shaker with the muddled blackberries.
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) to chill and dilute properly. Secure the lid.
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled.
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled rocks glass (or coupe) over fresh ice if using a rocks glass. Use a fine strainer to catch seeds and large pulp for a smoother drink.
Garnish & finish
Skewer one fresh blackberry on a pick and rest it on the rim or float it on top. Add a lime wheel or wedge to the rim for aroma.
Serve immediately. Optionally, express a lime peel over the drink for extra citrus oils before dropping it in.
