Main Ingredients
For Marinara Sauce
Method
Preparation of Mozzarella Sticks
Prepare the Breading Station
Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
Coat the Mozzarella Sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, making sure to coat all sides. Shake off any excess flour. Next, dip the stick into the beaten eggs, and finally, coat it with breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the stick to ensure they adhere well.
Freeze the Coated Sticks
Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour. This helps to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during frying.
Frying the Mozzarella Sticks
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a breadcrumb into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
Fry the Sticks
Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Making the Marinara Sauce
Prepare the Sauce
Add the canned crushed tomatoes to the saucepan along with dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to help the flavors meld together.
Serving
Plate the Mozzarella Sticks
Serve the crispy mozzarella sticks hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
